Getting Online With Windows 3.11
There’s nothing quite like that moment when you fire up your copy of Windows 3.11 (for Workgroups of course) and a copy of Internet Explorer so ancient you’d swear it was actually older than the Internet. Even better if you’re not one of those dialup suckers having to use Trumpet Winsock to play the symphony of modems. I recently had the privilege of experiencing the past using a VMware virtual machine with MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11. Unfortunately VMware has been slacking when it comes to releasing VMware Tools for Windows 3.11 so your console won’t be as smooth as you’d like. Still, it was amusing to revisit a classic GUI I hadn’t touched since the 90’s.
